energycostmap is a static site with no accounts, no login and no database of visitors. One third-party service runs on it — Google Analytics — and this page says exactly what that means.
Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-4BLZZ1R0N9) records page views, approximate location at city level derived from IP address, device and browser type, the referring site, and which links are clicked. It sets cookies in the browser to recognise a returning visit. IP addresses are truncated by Google before storage and are not available to this site.
Nothing else is collected. There is no advertising network, no remarketing pixel, no session recorder, no heat-mapping, no fingerprinting script and no social embed. Everything else the pages load — stylesheet, images, the calculator — is served from this domain.
No name, address, email or telephone number is collected anywhere on the site, because nothing asks for one. The sliders and the system-size calculator run entirely in the browser; the figures entered are never transmitted and are discarded when the page closes. There is no quote form, no newsletter, and no enquiry is captured or sold.
If the correction form on the method page is used, the state, the figure and any email address supplied are processed by Formspree and emailed on. That is the only route by which a reader can send information to this site, and it is entirely voluntary.
Any of these stops the analytics entirely: a browser-level tracker blocker, Google's own opt-out add-on, or a privacy browser's default settings. Nothing on the site depends on analytics; every page and the calculator work identically with it blocked.
Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted automatically by Google. Processing takes place on Google's infrastructure, which may include servers outside the reader's country. Google's handling is governed by its own privacy policy.
To know which states and questions people actually arrive looking for, so the work goes where it is useful. The figures published here are not personalised, so there is nothing to gain from tracking an individual, and no attempt is made to.
The site is not funded by any solar company, utility or advocacy group and sells nothing. Some outbound links to quotation services may earn a commission; that has no bearing on any figure, and no company can pay to change a number, appear on a state page or be ranked higher. The about page sets this out in full.
